Silesian Stuff 2022 Exhibition at Dobroteka

Silesian Design proves that design in Poland is getting better and developing in various fields, adding a new dimension to creativity at the pinnacles of Silesia's creative scene. This year's edition of Silesian Design paid homage to the light of graphic design, and especially book design.
The product category saw an award given to the company Pajak from Bielsko-Biała for their product, the Radical H16 sleeping bag, created by Wojciech Kłapcia. This is specialized equipment with many "smart" solutions that has been perfected over the years. The award goes primarily to the Pajak brand for its consistently high quality and standards. The example of Patagonia shows that this industry remains at the forefront of a progressive approach to design and business, and it is nice to see a Polish representative of this trend.
Other nominated projects maintained an equally impressive standard. Marbet presented the Confee series of chairs, whose design is subtle but reliably engineered, consistent with their reputation for comfort. Also noteworthy is the NODO armchair from Paged, which harks back to the tradition of bentwood "thonets" - it is a beautiful piece of furniture with exceptionally graceful proportions.
In the exhibition category, the award went to "The Craftsman's Self-Portrait", an exhibition of sculptures by Bogdan Kossak, created by him, Magdalena Niziołek and Agata Picheń-Kowalska. It is an intimate and restrained exhibition that evokes admiration. A distinction was awarded to the New Royal Treasury at Wawel, designed by Wzorro Design. The designers successfully dealt with a difficult space and a theme that might not be the most captivating for the general public.
The Services category is always challenging, as it is difficult to evaluate services without thorough analysis and testing. Nevertheless, it is gratifying that this category exists, confirming that service design is a full-fledged field of design. Two projects received distinctions: the book "Zamigaj mi! Co robię?" (Sign to me! What am I doing?) by Paulina Szuścik and Oliwia Michniewska for Od Nowa Publishing House, which is an excellent educational tool, and ankieta.migowisko.pl, an example of "invisible design" - a project that seemed prosaic but is well-developed and has social significance.
For dessert, we leave graphic design, and especially book design. We noticed that the author of the winning project, Zosia Oslislo-Piekarska, competes with herself, as her projects have consistently attracted attention.
The award in this category went to the album "Tychy – Geometria Przestrzeni" (Tychy - Geometry of Space), designed by Zosia Oslislo-Piekarska. This is an exceptionally elegant publication issued by the Tychy City Office, which contains photographs of spaces in Tychy by Radosław Kaźmierczak, as well as poetry. It is a true work of art and an example of a successful "art-branding" strategy. It is gratifying that local governments are abandoning shoddy marketing and promotional gadgets.
A distinction was also received by the publication "Z sobą i o sobie czyli spotkania z pacjentem" (With Oneself and About Oneself, or Meetings with the Patient) by Jolanta Jastrząb and Katarzyna Krasoń, which focuses on the therapeutic process for people with nervous and mental illnesses. The designer, Ania Kopaczewska, handled this difficult subject wonderfully, using layout, color, and typography in a unique way.
