This year marks a grand anniversary for Kler, one of Poland's leading manufacturers of premium furniture. It's five decades in the market, full of challenges, successes, and inspiration. The history of this company begins in the small town of Dobrodzień, where Piotr Kler, the company's founder, began his furniture journey. The company name, Kler, refers directly to its founder's surname. Piotr Kler has always remained true to his roots, connected with Dobrodzień for years, despite many opportunities to change his place of business. It was in Dobrodzień that he began his furniture journey as a young man, and also as an entrepreneur, becoming an integral part of the local community.
Piotr Kler, a resident of Dobrodzień for sixty years, encountered the secrets of furniture making at the age of thirteen. It was in the local carpentry workshop of master Antoni Aptyka that he began his apprenticeship as an upholsterer. The years spent with Aptyka were not only a period of learning but also a time when Piotr Kler absorbed invaluable experience and passion for creating unique furniture.
In 1973, already a master upholsterer, Piotr Kler made a bold decision to establish his own company. He rented premises in the heart of Dobrodzień, purchased machinery, and began production. The beginnings of Kler company were difficult, especially during the Polish People's Republic, when many basic goods were lacking. However, Piotr Kler did not succumb to difficult market conditions and developed his first original furniture design – the "Leniwiec" sofa and armchair. This was an innovation at the time, and also proof that a Polish furniture manufacturer could match Western standards.
It was a humble beginning, with one employee on board, but with enormous potential. The breakthrough came with the birth of "Leniwiec." Piotr Kler was the first in Poland to start producing upholstered furniture from exceptional leather and named it after himself. These were pieces of furniture filled not only with foam but also with dreams. In the 1990s, the Kler company experienced a true boom. Orders grew like proverbial mushrooms after rain, and Piotr Kler became a wizard who could conjure comfort and luxury in the form of "Leniwiec" armchairs and sofas.
The nineties brought a real boom in the history of the Kler company. The annual growth in orders at that time was an impressive 50-60 percent. In 1991, the first company showroom was opened, and to this day, the Kler brand is sold through its own distribution network.
Currently, Kler S.A. Group employs approximately 650 people, which is proof of the significant growth of the company since its establishment. Piotr Kler, currently the chairman of the supervisory board, handed over the reins to his son, Sebastian Kler, who continues the legacy and develops the company.
Dobrodzień, a small town, still remains a town of carpenters, and furniture production is still vibrant and developing there. The Kler company is developing in the upholstered furniture segment as well as other segments of the furniture industry. In 2020, Kler Garden was created, a collection of outdoor furniture that brings comfort and style outdoors, to gardens and terraces. And in 2022, Kler Kitchen appeared, an assortment line with kitchen furniture that combines functionality with elegance. This is proof that the company is constantly evolving and adapting to changing customer needs.
This year, Kler celebrates its fiftieth birthday. It's time to look back at the long and inspiring history of a company that transformed from a small furniture workshop into one of the most important premium furniture manufacturers in Poland. The success of Kler is the result of hard work, passion, and the dedication of its founder, Piotr Kler, who not only created a company but also became an integral part of the history of Dobrodzień and the Polish furniture industry.
