Interview with Anna Dzierżanowska
The passion of design
A designer has appropriate knowledge and experience. They know all possible materials and accessories available on the market - Anna Dzierżanowska, creative director of the Halupczok brand, discusses interior design, building relationships with clients, and the most important room in the house - the kitchen.
With such an extensive portfolio, you must have exclusive interior design projects with a unique character to your name. What was your most prestigious commission?
Undoubtedly, it was designing the home of a famous Polish athlete, a champion in their sport, whose name is recognized worldwide. Nevertheless, the result was very satisfying, and the owners, when renovating the interior years later, turned to me again.
Designing is a complex creative process. It requires not only expert knowledge but also immense creativity. Where do you draw your inspiration from? Is there anything that particularly influences a project?
Certainly, the inspiration for a single model is composed of a series of images that germinate in the mind, creating a kind of mood board. Trips to furniture and interior design fairs help in its creation. Observing the automotive market, new technologies, but also, at the other extreme, observing nature can be helpful. It's important to have an open mind, to support oneself with the principles of design thinking and future thinking, because one must remember to connect the future of business with trends.
Let's stay with the topic of trends. How do you find harmony between what's fashionable and what's timeless?
Many years ago, I developed the opinion that if someone wants to follow dynamically changing trends in their interior, they should opt for quite minimalist furnishings and adapt to trends with accessories. When it comes to timelessness, I recommend simple forms and subdued colors. People who have a fondness for classics, by furnishing their interior with stylized furniture and accessories, will also achieve a timeless interior. Classic style is always in fashion.
The Polish interior design market is dynamically developing. How has the approach to design changed over recent years? What do clients expect nowadays?
First and foremost, it's about conversations with the client and co-creation. The client wants to feel that we will adequately meet their expectations; they want to feel that they have a real influence on the final product's shape. Another observed trend is the desire for a feeling of uniqueness. The client wants to be treated exceptionally. Product personalization, for example, in the case of the Halupczok brand, individual engraving on glass sides and drawer fronts, contributes to this.
Poles are increasingly using the help of professionals when furnishing interiors. Why is it worth using the services of an interior designer?
A designer has appropriate knowledge and experience. They know all possible materials and accessories available on the market. They know a wide range of household appliances and fittings. They can choose lighting and appropriate finishing materials with parameters suitable for a given room.
The room whose design gives you the most satisfaction is…
Of course, the kitchen. We spend a lot of time in it, and because of this, the kitchen fulfills many non-obvious functions, such as childcare, social gatherings... We must anticipate all this when talking to the client and adjust the design accordingly. The kitchen is also a room packed with new technologies. I will only mention household appliances here, lighting that can be controlled using systems generally referred to as "smart home." Kitchen design is a great challenge and immense satisfaction.
Thank you for the interview
