Exhibition of Pedagogical University of Krakow Faculty Members

Interesting design and emphasis on functionality – these are the features that characterize the exhibits, which are part of the exhibition currently hosted at Dobroteka.

Designer furniture, interesting interior accessories, functional home accessories, and products for children – all contribute to an interesting exhibition that has now fully settled in the Art Exhibition Gallery at Dobroteka. The presented exhibition is dedicated to selected works by lecturers from the Design department of the Pedagogical University of Krakow (Uniwersytet Pedagogiczny im. Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie).

The exhibition illustrates the design process, i.e., the journey a product takes from defining the challenge through concept development to prototype realization. You can see how the designer's work and workshop look, and what stories lie behind the creation of the presented objects. The exhibition features:

Rotor Lamp, designed by Dagmara Latała and Jacek Latała – the lamp's construction allows for various variations of light penetration. Modules can be mounted in two ways, creating a concave or convex form, thereby changing the geometry of the solid. The lamp's slatted palisade separates the user from the direct light source, while also providing a view into its interior.

Fawn – furniture-toy, designed by Joanna Krokosz – a furniture-toy that combines the function of a comfortable seat and a toy. The Fawn consists of six elements, all screwed together with metal connectors placed within each element.

Tove brand products, BIRDS series, designed by Ewa Protasiewicz – a wall hanger for outer clothing, towels, kitchen accessories, and many others, it will find use in all home spaces. Made of oak wood and brass, it is available in two variants – facing right or left. Each piece is unique, handmade using traditional woodworking and metalworking methods.

Comforters – ceramic dishes, designed by Ewa Protasiewicz – "Comforter" is a bird from the tissue holder family, a species that nests in household corners. It is characterized by a plump belly and a delicate tail – a tissue. The idea behind designing the comforters was to create an everyday object that "comes alive" in contact with people.

Lounge set for small apartments, designed by Sabina Knapczyk-Marek – a significant assumption is to reconcile durability and variability in the furniture. The set consists of a solid base and interchangeable elements that allow for customization. The armchair's base is a wooden frame and upholstered seat in neutral colors, complemented by a quilted overlay. The side table has an interchangeable top that can also be used as a tray.

OR Lamp, designed by Sabina Knapczyk – Marek – dedicated to office and home spaces. The lamp provides pleasant, diffused light. The object changes its character depending on the viewing angle: from the front it is slender and delicate, in perspective it appears massive and heavy. The lamp is available in several lengths and color versions.

Komody_H, designed by Aleksandra Satława – functional and simple solution for organizing living room space. The user can personalize – change colors and patterns of cabinet and drawer front perforations, and the height of the structure. Stylistically, the chests of drawers refer to minimalist Polish furniture from the 1960s.

My Wave, designed by Marcin Nowak – this is a project for a wireless device designed to study neuronal activity. Its task is to collect electrical impulses from the cerebral cortex surface and then transfer the data to a mobile device equipped with appropriate control software. The concept was developed with preventive actions in mind to support the early diagnosis program for neurological diseases.

DYBLOMAT, designed by Bartosz Mucha – a critical design project that comments on the increasingly popular 3D printers. Much is said about the revolution, about shifting the production of objects from large factories to home mini-factories. Above all, however, the problem is freedom of choice: if I can do anything, what should I print? And here frustration arises. If you are not a professional, e.g., a designer or producer who needs to quickly prototype something, it usually ends up printing unnecessary gadgets. DYBLOMAT is a 3D printer that does not offer many choices and brutally restricts them. You can only print wall plugs on it; we can only decide on their diameter and length.

The exhibition in the Art Exhibition Gallery at Dobroteka is available until July 20, 2020. We invite you during the opening hours of the facility: Monday – Friday from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Saturday and commercial Sunday from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
