Silesian Design June

Design can change reality. We have been convinced of this many times by the activities of Dobroteka, Cieszyn Castle, the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and Katowice, the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, the Institute of Art of the University of Opole, the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Opole and the Domar Interior Design Gallery in Wrocław. Therefore, to strengthen the impact of design projects, the above institutions decided to unite.

June 2014 will see an explosion of joint design initiatives in Opole Silesia, Lower Silesia, Upper Silesia (such as: Silesian Thing, Night with Design, Good Designer's Week, Vision of Rest, etc.). New joint projects will be initiated. The program for the entire month of June includes numerous exhibitions, presentations, workshops, competitions, film screenings, lectures and even a sculpture plein-air.

The goal of the Silesian Design June is to improve the functional and aesthetic quality of the human environment by creating conditions for the development of socially useful design creativity.

Additionally:
- expanding the cultural offer of the Silesian region, through an accessible presentation of the experiences of local crafts, designers, architects, and students of design faculties;
- educating the local community on product aesthetics, also by opening universities that educate designers to public participation in their activities;
- initiating economic development based on innovative design, thereby building the competitive advantage of regional producers;
- supporting the development of new technologies with good design and disseminating and implementing these solutions in practice;
- building platforms for understanding and cooperation between designers and entrepreneurs seeking ways to develop their products;
- developing cooperation in macro-regions based on good common design practices;
- promoting regional attractions of design and architecture.
We are convinced that the actions we have undertaken are unique, serve the development of a community sensitive to the beauty of its surroundings, improve the comfort of life, and promote functionally and aesthetically valuable objects from our environment.

The recipients will be residents of the region and visitors, producers interested in design services, as well as people associated with the design community, designers, architects, graphic designers, photographers and students of art and design courses from Poland.

Many partners have already become involved in the organization and promotion of the Silesian Design June. The Honorary Patrons of the undertaking are the Governor of Lower Silesia, the Marshal of the Opole Voivodeship, and the Starost of Olesno.
