Opening of the S. Kuryłowicz Square

On March 29th this year, the official opening of the Stefan Kuryłowicz Square took place in Warsaw in front of the Wola Center building. Thanks to the invitation from the Stefan Kuryłowicz Foundation, we were guests at this ceremony. The square, featuring a sculptural accent depicting the tragically deceased architect, is located opposite the last building He designed - the Wola Center office building. The bust of the renowned architect was sculpted by Krzysztof M. Bednarski.
The guests gathered at the Square were welcomed by the Chairwoman of the Foundation Council, architect Ewa Kuryłowicz. Speeches were also given by the President of SARP, architect Mariusz Ścisło, and the President of the Chamber of Architects, Małgorzata Pilinkiewicz. Architect Jan Słyk, the current Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Warsaw University of Technology, warmly remembered his colleague and lecturer.
After the ceremony, guests could visit the Zodiak Cinema, which hosted an exhibition presenting interesting architectural projects and a presentation of the projects by this year's scholarship recipients of the Stefan Kuryłowicz Foundation. There was also a presentation of projects vying for the Stefan Kuryłowicz Award in the "Theory and Practice" Competition. The committee appointed by the Foundation selected a project that it deemed worthy of development and implementation.
