Call for entries for the Silesian Thing 2023 competition

Submissions are now open for the Śląska Rzecz 2023 competition! On behalf of Cieszyn Castle, we cordially encourage you to participate!

Śląska Rzecz is a regional competition that awards and distinguishes innovative, high-quality projects in the broadly understood area of design. It emphasizes locality, appreciates the functionality of products and services in everyday life, and supports bold, groundbreaking solutions. The idea behind the competition is to draw attention to the needs of users, including excluded groups – leveling the playing field and providing increasingly new opportunities for participation in social life. Companies, designers, NGOs, and public institutions submitting their projects ensure not only the effectiveness of the proposed tools but also their best quality, original form, and aesthetic values. We believe that wise and responsible design is necessary to improve the quality of life. Teamwork is important – for example, designers with companies, institutions, or third-sector organizations. We hope that this year's edition of the competition will bring further good practices from the Silesian and Opole Voivodeships! We encourage you to submit projects until April 30, 2024.

Why is it worth participating in the Śląska Rzecz competition?

1. It values the courage to think outside the box and the willingness to seek solutions that improve the quality of daily life. Its participants are "creators of a better everyday life."

2. Awards and nominations are a confirmation of the highest quality, as well as a certificate of care for people – viewers, clients, residents.

3. It is the only regional design competition promoting locality in line with the idea: think globally, act locally. Awarded and distinguished projects are the best examples of awareness and pride in local resources.

4. Not only good ideas but also the quality of their implementation count, thanks to recognizing the needs of people using the submitted projects.

5. It shows that design is an effective tool, allowing one to stand out in the market, adapt faster to changes, and respond to the expectations of recipients.

We invite to participate:
companies, designers, NGOs, public institutions

Submitted projects:
must have been implemented in 2023 in the Silesian and/or Opole Voivodeships – with the exception of the exhibition design category.

We evaluate projects based on:
– innovation of solutions,
– sustainable development,
– consideration of user needs, including the elderly and disabled,
– design process,
– functionality and ergonomics,
– quality of execution and materials used,
– aesthetics.

Submission deadline:

Post-competition exhibition:
