Dobroteka guest at the 11th birthday of Cieszyn Castle
On the occasion of its 11th birthday, Cieszyn Castle initiated a great tour of newly built cultural facilities located near Katowice's "Spodek" and the old mining district of "Nikiszowiec."
The first of the facilities that guests invited by Cieszyn Castle could explore was the new headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, designed by Tomasz Konior's design studio. The architecture of the building, with its colors and red brick finishing details, refers to traditional Silesian architecture. However, the interior and the concert hall itself have a very modern form and are realized using modern architectural technologies. The facility is one of the largest in Poland in terms of concert halls and offers the highest level of professionalism in terms of acoustics, thanks to cooperation with top specialists from Japan.
The second facility, opened last year, is the International Congress Centre in Katowice. Its architecture was designed by the JEMS studio from Warsaw. The building's architectural form refers to a crystal structure, and its finishing details indicate connections to its mining heritage.
The last of the modern facilities was the Silesian Museum in Katowice. Located near an old mine, its form deviates from traditional Silesian architectural solutions; it is an underground structure, while above ground, we can only see modern, glass skylights in the shape of cuboids. The project was created by the Austrian studio Riegler Riewe Architekten.
It was a very good illustrative lesson on modern architectural solutions. As representatives of Dobroteka, we regret very much that we could not take part in the second part, where we could have learned more about traditional Silesian architecture, which Professor Irma Kozina presented to the guests.
