Design June 2019
Our environment is changing, increasingly filled with aesthetic, user-friendly equipment. Our services are also adapting to user expectations. These changes are nothing other than well-thought-out design solutions, simply called design. Design is often associated with strange, shocking, expensive, and impractical things. We want to promote design that makes our surroundings functional
and aesthetic. We are aware that we all use designed things and services, and the quality of projects and their implementation determines user comfort.
Around us, there are institutions that educate designers, as well as promote and distribute well-designed products. That is why in 2014, we initiated SILESIAN DESIGN JUNE – an undertaking that allowed us to boast about our own good design practices in Silesia, which – in our opinion – are worth propagating in Poland and worldwide. We have continued these activities for the past five years, and this year a new region – Lesser Poland – joined the initiative, which was renamed DESIGN JUNE. We are pleased that the circle of Partners has expanded to include: THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN KRAKÓW, THE FACULTY OF DESIGN OF THE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF KRAKÓW, and THE TET MAJER 83 INTERIOR ART GALLERY IN KRAKÓW.
We are convinced that DESIGN JUNE has become a permanent fixture in the national calendar of design events, which is why this year we intend to continue the work we started and are open to June initiatives throughout Poland. So far, at numerous exhibitions, we have presented projects and implementations created in the region, student works, and diplomas from partner universities. We have also invited people to lectures and workshops with designers, organized Sculpture Plein-Airs, during which sculptors showed a different approach to furniture with particular attention to the individuality of form. Children
and adults were convinced that games and activities can teach design, and a performer suggested how many functions a simple object from our environment can perform. These and many other activities were carried out in June over the past years with a group of trusted partners: THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS IN KATOWICE, THE ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS
IN WROCŁAW, DOBROTEKA IN DOBRODZIEŃ, THE GALLERY OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN OPOLE, THE DOMAR INTERIOR GALLERY IN WROCŁAW, THE FACULTY OF ART OF THE UNIVERSITY OF OPOLE, THE FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE OF THE SILESIAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY IN GLIWICE, CIESZYN CASTLE under the slogan UNITED BY DESIGN. Projects were carried out in three Silesian voivodeships (Lower Silesian, Opole, and Silesian). Approximately 10,000 people, both children and adults, professionals and design enthusiasts, participated in over 150 events. In 2015, we established the United by Design Association, which currently coordinates the promotion of events. So far, we have also invited other entities supporting good design to participate (ARENA DESIGN from POZNAŃ, ŁÓDŹ DESIGN FESTIVAL, ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS from KRAKÓW, SILESIA BAZAAR from KATOWICE, KATOWICE AIRPORT, UNIVERSITY OF ARTS IN POZNAŃ, etc.). The project was granted honorary patronage by voivodes, marshals, district governors, and mayors. Information about the events appeared in regional and national media (DESIGN ALIVE, 2+3D, BIZNES MEBLE, ARCHITEKTURA & BIZNES, ARCHITEKTURA MURATOR, RADIO OPOLE, TVP),
this year also RFM and RFM Classic. For the purposes of the project, we launched a website www.czerwiecprojektowy.pl and Facebook activities.
We believe that the actions undertaken several years ago make sense, and we care about making the world around us more aesthetic and user-friendly. Therefore, we ask and encourage you to actively promote our social initiative. We also believe that together we are able to educate our society and increase the awareness of Poles.
